Purgatory Resort New Ski Lift Line Clearing
Contracted by Purgatory Resort to conduct steep angle, cliff-side timber falling and clearance for a new triple chairlift and ski trail expansion.
About The Project
Partnering with Purgatory Resort for a major capital improvement project in the fall of 2025, VM West conducted steep angle, roped-off timber falling to clear timber for a new lift line and to clear multiple new ski runs. The VM team cleared 14 acres of full vegetation clearance, with partial removal, along 30° – 55° ridgelines, bordered by cliff face. VM Sawyers utilized tie-off practices to safely access and fall large trees on the cliff edge, also incorporating lop and scatter practices meeting spec to ensure safe skiing conditions. This work is part of a larger, multi-year expansion effort, with subsequent phases next season involving aerial removal, mechanical thinning, and grinding of slash materials.
