Operating across multiple spans, VMW utilized expert falling crews to manage timber removal on challenging terrain.
About The Project
VM West successfully executed full 100’ right-of-way clearance on the Burro Bridge – Silverton – Molas Tap Transmission Line Project, collaborating closely with project partners in the electric distribution cooperative, federal land agencies, and Mountain Blade Runners (MBR) for the aerial operations. Understanding the complexities of this project, VMW initiated mechanical and hand falling operations two weeks in advance, optimizing safety and productivity before aerial work commenced. This project strategy ensured safe operations through the entirety of the project and resulted in no required line outages, resulting in no lost power to the generation and transmission customers.
Operating across multiple spans, VMW utilized expert falling crews to manage timber removal on challenging terrain. With a fleet of advanced equipment—including Ponsse harvesters and the K-Max helicopter for aerial transport—we ensured efficient timber handling while preserving vital infrastructure.
Throughout the project, VMW developed an operational plan in close coordination with the Project Administrator and local agencies. This included a thorough Helicopter Operations Plan and proactive communication with stakeholders to minimize community impacts.
Our commitment to safety and operational excellence allowed VMW to navigate steep slopes and complex environmental considerations effectively, while preserving the safety of all partners and the public who were constantly active throughout the area, passing through the project across state roadways.
