Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit – Circuit 2/3

About The Project

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Treatment Unit 2/3 was a collaborative effort by NV Energy and the United States Forest Service under the program name Resiliency Corridor Project. This project, one of many within the RCP program, was located at Heavenly Ski Resort where over 100 acres was targeted for treatment. VM West accomplished all 102 acres of treatment with a breakdown of: 31 acres of technical helicopter logging, 71 acres of mechanized CTL logging and 102 acres of mastication. The primary focus of these projects is to strengthen the corridors in which energized power lines run in efforts to both protect the utility resource from fire impacts and decrease the likelihood and forward progression of wildfire in the area. This project was started late in the field season of 2025 with the potential weather impacts looming over the completion date. VM West rose to the challenge and completed the project with 2 weeks ahead of the targeted completion date and only a day before weather pushed operations off the mountain.
