Miller Gulch

About The Project

VM West successfully completed the Miller Gulch Stewardship Project in partnership with Stewardship West and the US Forest Service. This vital initiative spanned 500 acres and aimed to implement hazardous fuels reduction and fire mitigation measures in the forested landscape of Bailey, Colorado.

Leveraging a mix of traditional logging and cut-to-length equipment, VMW executed a comprehensive strategy that included thinning and mastication. The operation focused on the strategic removal of trees while ensuring that material was effectively utilized—either for product generation or offered to the public as firewood. Activity slash was primarily managed through mastication, significantly reducing fire risk and enhancing forest health.

The Details

Throughout the contract period, VMW prioritized efficiency and adaptability. The use of advanced machinery, including tracked and rubber-tired feller bunchers, facilitated timely processing and transport of removed timber. VMW ensured that all designated trees were appropriately cut, yarded, and processed at approved landing locations, with strict adherence to project specifications.

Overview

As operations progressed, VMW committed to sustainable practices, leaving a defined number of biomass trees per acre to maintain ecological balance. The successful implementation of this project not only met Stewardship West’s objectives but reinforced VMW’s reputation as a reliable partner in stewardship and forest management.
